Top 10 VP Versions
In our continuing series on Video Poker, as with any group
of articles, there comes a time for a Top 10 list and that
time is now.
You will note that some of the VP versions below have been
discussed already with corresponding pay schedules and strategies.
However, all top ten VP games mentioned and more will be
covered in future columns.
Top 10 Video Poker
Listed below are the average payback %'s over an extended
period of time for several VP versions, listing the top 10
choices in descending order.
These percentages are maintained with maximum coins per hand
with 'full-pay' schedule play and perfect strategy.
The real payout will fall below 100% by a degree that matches
the quality of the play, and the player.
| 1) 10/7 Double Bonus Jacks +--2 pair
pays 2 |
101.94% |
2) 11/4 or 10/4 Loose Deuces--4 Deuces
pays 2500 |
100.97% |
3) 9/5 Deuces Wild |
100.76% |
4) All American Poker--Straight Flush
pays 1000 |
100.72% |
5) 7/5 Jokers Wild-5 of a kind pays 1000 |
100.64% |
6) 10/7 Double Bonus--2 pair pays 1 |
100.15% |
7) Pick 'Em Poker |
99.95% |
8) 9/6 Jacks+ |
99.54% |
9) 8/5 Bonus Jacks+--2 pair pays 2, Four
Aces pays 400 |
99.17% |
10) 9/6 Double Double Bonus--4 Aces with
2, 3 or 4 pays 2000 |
98.98% |
The first two numbers reflect the payouts for a full house
and flush as per one coin payout. The exception being for
Deuces Wild versions--#2 and #3, which reflect the payouts
for a straight flush and 4 of a kind as per one coin payout.
Therefore, a 10/7 bonus version would pay 10 coins for a full
house and 7 coins for a flush.
Also, because Bonus VP versions offer higher payouts for four
aces and four 2's, 3's and 4's, the pair and two pair payouts
are often the same--1 coin rather than 2.
Other paying hands like straights and flushes are reduced
too.
Now, I know that the #10 selection DDBonus certainly does
not qualify in the top ten payout category with several other
VP's boasting better returns. However, the popularity of this
version and more importantly, the casino availability was
taken into consideration when compiling this list.
But, I do offer up a warning that this DDBonus is not the
best VP play.
It bears repeating that these percentages are maintained with
maximum coins, full-pay schedules and perfect strategy in
play.
The actual payout of any video poker machine is determined
not only by its schedule but by how you select discards. Since
playing errors can reduce the payout, just sitting down in
front of a full pay machine won't help you unless you learn
the correct strategies.
And those strategies, my VP playing friends, are revealed
here. We will continue discussing Bonus VP versions in the
next article. Until we meet again, may all your VP choices
turn out to be 'royalty'.
